Pediatrician Failed to Run Bilirubin Test on Newborn
A newborn was significantly jaundiced a few days after birth, but even with this appearance, the
pediatrician failed to run a bilirubin test to determine if the child was suffering from
hyperbilirubinemia. The child suffered mild to moderate brain damage with cognitive and motor
skill dysfunction. A settlement of $1.25 million was reached before trial.
